Succulents are collected and cultivated widely for their striking appearance, stunning flowers and general hardiness. Some, such as the aloes, are grown for their medicinal properties. In Mexico, pulque, an alcoholic drink made from the sap of an agave, is forbidden for children and the young, but may be drunk at will by the old and those who have survived a calamity.
