Inverell was first settled by Europeans in 1858 when an enterprising man named Colin Ross set up a store. Ross Hill, which contains some lovely homes and the local High School (shown on this page) is named in his honour. The town has a modern shopping center and many lovely parks and gardens. The Macintyre River flows through the town and the banks provide excellent recreation facilities including a golf driving range.
